I was thinking of doing a ‘best music of 2011’ list like everyone else but choosing would require too much thought for a post that will be read and forgotten in 10 minutes. Plus, I can’t stop thinking about how amazing 2011 has been! So since I’m already on it, here is my top 10 personal highlights and accomplishments of 2011. I have a feeling 2012 is gonna be even bigger and better.

Last Call
This summer, San Jose had something special. Av and the Hella Proper crew held Last Call every Sunday at the outdoor area of Motif Lounge. I really wish I recorded my set from that afternoon, definitely one of my favorites.

Soul Assassins Radio
Being invited to appear as a guest DJ on Soul Assassins radio and interviewed by Ern Dogg and Mr Choc is humbling, to say the least. And being the first and only Bay Area DJ to ever do it? Crazy.

Doin It In The Park
Every year, thousands of people get together at Golden Gate Park on the Sunday afternoon of Labor Day Weekend to party like it’s night time. It was an honor to be invited to play with some of the Bay Area’s best.

Roy Ayers Project
My D2S brother has been working hard documenting the life of Roy Ayers and enlisted an all star crew of artists, videographers, and music scholars to pull it off. This year we introduced the world to the project and the impact was felt. Can’t wait to show what’s next.

Good Foot
Every Thursday, Hip Hop fans got together at SOM for Good Foot. Not only to rage the fuck out, but to check out some of their favorite up and coming artists perform live. I’m not even gonna name all the artists we had there, but if you know, you know.

Clean Ass Whip
With the help of my SWTBRDS family I finally released the Clean Ass Whip mixtape and the response was overwhelming, in a good way. I’m so proud of this project and couldn’t ask for a better first release. Way more to come!

Clean Ass Whip Tour
Ok, so after the mixtape comes the tour right? Only if you’re DJ Neil Armstrong. But I pulled it off with the help of some DJ and promoter friends throughout the West Coast. Trust me, it’s not as glamorous as it may seem but I’ll definitely be doing it again.

The Do-Over
I don’t think I need to tell you how big of an event The Do-Over is. All I will say is when I got the invitation from Chris Haycock to come DJ at possibly the best party in the world I shat my pants a little bit. Then did it again after my set.

D2S 10 Year Anniversary
To sum up ten whole years of hard work and dedication to the Bay Area’s Hip Hop scene in one night is an impossible task, so we didn’t even try. Instead we got all our friends to come party it up at Mighty. Wow, what a party though.

Pump Your Breaks
Technically, this dropped on New Years Day but I’m gonna count it as a highlight for 2011. I carefully curated, edited and mixed every track to bring the perfect follow up to Clean Ass Whip. Grab that and enjoy!
